Window Curtain

Getting decorations for your home are frequently costly and complicated to coordinate. This is the reason why some people prefer to not buy at all. The wise ones, however, choose to recycle instead. One way of saving money and yet getting a nice window curtain is through an unused shower curtain or even unused window shower curtains.

Instead of buying a new curtain, it is a better idea to sew a curtain for your window using a shower curtain. You can make several window curtains, depending on the measurements and how much cloth is leftover from the shower curtain. This article discusses the steps on making your own curtain from excess shower curtains.  You will be able to use this on all kinds of windows including making bay window curtains (of course you will also need bay window curtain rods for this) or even window treatments curtains.

The First Step to Making Curtains

The first step is to measure the window where you are looking to place the curtain on. Measure the curtain rod attachments as well. Once you have measured the size of the window, add at least 6 inches in the width so the fabric may scrunch on the rod and still properly cover your window at the same time. Turn the top of your shower curtain down on the curtain rod so you may determine just how much fabric you would need to add to the length. You should leave enough fabric on the curtain rod's top so it will comfortably fit in your rod casing.

From Shower Curtain to Window Curtain

Next step is to find the bottom seams or existing side of your shower curtain and then measure it from the seam up to the edge. Double the number and then add it to the width and the length.

Then, you may begin at the top of the two sides of your shower curtain and cut it according to the size you need. Preserve the fabric by making only two cuts - one on the bottom and one on the side. Then, set aside the rest of the shower curtain.

The Final Step: Sewing Your Curtain

Once you have done these, the next thing to do is to make a seam guide. To do this, you should fold the raw edges back and the place pins along the fabric evenly. Use the measurement you took earlier to determine how much cloth you should fold. Do the same on the top.

Sew the sides of your curtain. The easiest way is to use a sewing machine, which will backstitch the start of the seam up to the end. Once all sides are sewn, you will have to cut any loose threads to make it more attractive. And there you have new curtain.
The last thing that you would have to do is place your new curtain on the window curtain rods and hang it on your window. Adjust the curtain on the rod if necessary. With this process, you need not spend anything and still get a good curtain for your room.

Curtains for all Windows in Your House

This process will work for all rooms in your house.  You can create bathroom window curtains or kitchen window curtains just to name a few examples.  Basically, this process allows you the freedom to customize curtains that will fit any room in your house.
